Who we are
Petersen Behavior Consulting is a BCBA-led consulting practice dedicated to strengthening individuals, teams, and organizations through evidence-based behavioral science. We specialize in supporting all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities, provider agencies, and businesses seeking practical, ethical, and sustainable solutions.
Our work blends clinical expertise with real-world application—whether developing individualized behavior supports, training direct care teams, guiding leadership, or improving organizational systems. We believe behavior is communication, data should inform decisions, and meaningful change happens through collaboration.
Rooted in compassion and guided by science, Petersen Behavior Consulting partners with families, providers, and businesses across Hawai’i and Virginia to build confidence, improve outcomes, and create lasting impact.
Meet the Founder
Lauren Petersen is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) with extensive experience supporting individuals across the lifespan—from early childhood through adulthood—with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Grounded in the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Lauren specializes in developing individualized, function-based interventions that promote meaningful skill acquisition, reduce challenging behaviors, and improve overall quality of life. Her clinical work emphasizes assessment-driven treatment, including Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), data-based decision making, and ongoing progress monitoring to ensure effective and measurable outcomes.
In addition to her clinical expertise, Lauren brings a strong background in organizational leadership and systems development. She has led multi-site day programs, strengthened regulatory compliance initiatives, and designed tiered service models that align with best practices in behavior analysis. Her work reflects a unique ability to integrate evidence-based ABA principles with sustainable service delivery models, ensuring both clinical integrity and operational excellence.
Lauren’s approach to ABA is intentionally different.
She prioritizes direct BCBA involvement and parent collaboration, recognizing that meaningful progress happens when strategies are consistently implemented across environments. By coaching caregivers and empowering families, she ensures that skills extend beyond sessions into daily life—creating lasting, functional change.
She is deeply committed to:
Ethical, evidence-based practice rooted in behavior analytic principles
Dignity-centered care that respects each individual’s autonomy and voice
Culturally responsive and family-centered services
Staff and caregiver empowerment through education and collaboration
Her mission is simple: Use the science of behavior to create meaningful, lasting change—empowering individuals, strengthening families, and improving quality of life across the communities she serves.
