Who we are
Petersen Behavior Consulting is a BCBA-led practice providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services in Hawaiʻi, supporting individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder. We partner closely with children, adolescents, and adults to create meaningful, lasting change. We offer BCBA-led ABA therapy on Oʻahu and interisland, delivering individualized, evidence-based services without the delays and limitations of traditional models. Our approach focuses on understanding behavior in context and building practical skills that improve communication, independence, and daily functioning across home and community settings.
Our services include:
Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)
Individualized behavior support plans
Parent and caregiver coaching
Direct BCBA services (no technician turnover)
ABA consultation for provider agencies and organizations
Unlike many ABA providers, we work directly with families, ensuring consistency, higher-quality clinical care, and strategies that carry over into everyday life. Headquartered on Oʻahu, Petersen Behavior Consulting provides ABA services across Hawaiʻi, including interisland support, for families seeking flexible, high-quality care. We also serve select clients in Virginia through Therapeutic Consultation and program development.
At our core, we believe:
Behavior is communication
Families are essential to progress
Data should guide decisions
Collaboration leads to lasting outcomes
Meet the Founder
Lauren Petersen is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) in Hawaiʻi, providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services on Oʻahu and across the Hawaiian Islands for individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with experience spanning early childhood through adulthood.
Her approach to ABA therapy in Hawaiʻi is intentionally different. Lauren provides direct BCBA-led services. Thus, it eliminates staff turnover and ensures consistency, clinical precision, and meaningful progress. She emphasizes parent and caregiver coaching, recognizing that lasting change happens in everyday environments, not just during sessions. By combining evidence-based ABA practices with real-world application, she helps families build skills that are both effective and sustainable.
In addition to her clinical work, Lauren brings extensive experience in organizational leadership, program development, and regulatory compliance. She has led multi-site day programs, developed tiered service models aligned with best practices in behavior analysis, and mentored interdisciplinary teams across diverse settings. She believes that behavior is communication, that data should guide decisions, and that meaningful progress is built through consistency and trust. In recognition of her leadership and impact in the field, Lauren was honored as a recipient of the 40 Under 40 award, recognizing her dedication to advancing high-quality, innovative services within her community.
Based on Oʻahu, Lauren provides interisland ABA services across Hawaiʻi, offering flexible, high-quality care for families seeking immediate support, as well as consulting services for organizations and select clients in Virginia. Her mission is simple: to use the science of behavior to create meaningful, lasting change.
